I have the same problem on the Ion. The CF is behind the glovebox, easy to get to, but you have to work the filter around the door tab and housing. It sometimes gets crushed when inserting it. Oh well!

I still have to inspect/change mine.
I haven't looked yet and the P.O. did not know his car had one.

I pay for a filter and it doesn't work. That's what i'm risking.
