Napa Gold 1372 cut open 2500 miles

4200 miles on the Motorcraft 5w-20 oil and 2500 miles on this filter.
This truck had the FL-820s with the big hole in the media. I replaced that filter with another FL-820s before I found the hole. When I found torn pleats on the FL-400s I took off my Focus, I replaced the second FL-820s, which had loose bits of adhesive (pic included), with this Napa 1372. I changed it early partly because of the loose glue and partly because now my oil changes will be every 5000 miles on the odometer.

I don't know if the debris is the glue from the last oil filter, or if the air filter has a weak seal. It feels snug, but the slide in tray makes it hard to tell. There are no leaks in the intake or intake hose. I have never seen it before on this truck.

The glue is worse than the torn media-chunks of that (on the gallery side of the filter) could find their way into all kinds of bad places!

All it takes is for every used filter to be drained and closely inspected for us to be inundated with defective filters. It's just a matter of percentages. Only synthetic filters for me. At least, until those start showing holes too.

And then what will you use?

OEM Tokyo Roki in the Subaru as it is new and under warranty, ultra premium synthetic filters in the trusty Tacoma for me.

Purolator has fallen so far. Motorcrafts are now bit by the tear bug.

On the Motorcraft, the glue bead on the other side looks fine. To me it looks like when the cap was pulled off the glue broke away like that. The glue is hard on all filters, it breaks. I always look inside for glue mistakes, because I have found some with wayward glue around on parts inside, even a drop on the bypass valve parts. I told the company, which name I won't mention, but not Fram, and they sent me $20 in Starbucks gift cards and refunded the filter cost. Yes Starbucks has plenty of Merry Christmas labelled items for sale BTW. Sometimes it seems the "newz" is like the Twilight Zone.

The glue could have been knocked lose from cutting the filter, but the cap was loose and just fell off when I opened it up. It was not forced off.

I forgot to mention, I did not have any start up rattle with the Napa filter. When it sat for 2 months it still did not rattle at start up. It currently has a Mobil 1 M1-210 on it that has been quiet at well, but I think for the price I will use with the Wix/Napa gold filters on my truck.
