Looks like Premium Guard is taking over the store brand filter department everywhere now. No issue with this, except what Napa is charging…but that’s nothing new
they make good filters but it is a blow for an American corporation to seek overseas and do business off our soil.
why is that, why can't we do better? While I'm inclined to agree, if the domestic product isn't very good, as Wix has been proven to cut corners recently, I'd rather have the better product, even if it's coming from another country.
why is that, why can't we do better?
that's right. you nailed itWe can do better... Wix just doesn't bother doing better apparently. The problem is once people lose trust in your brand it's difficult to earn it back.
Yes, Napa Gold is now PG made. Very high quality filter. I agree with the others too. It’s sad we can’t seem to build quality filters here anymore.Looks like Premium Guard is taking over the store brand filter department everywhere now. I know it’s cheaper to produce filters overseas; but why not just keep it in the USA if you’re located in Memphis?PG able to give better quality at good prices for the auto parts stores. We wouldn't have these high quality PG products if it wasn't for international cooperation leading the way. However, PGI US based company. Personally, if competition is good thing. WIX had this market for a very long time & it's nice to see that shift change for the better.

Unfortunately businesses can’t find good help here. Nobody gives a crap anymore. When I retired from the railroad last year you could make well over six figures and have a huge pension. We could never find help….I know it’s cheaper to produce filters overseas; but why not just keep it in the USA if you’re located in Memphis?
The biggest thing was high cost & low availability due to infected era times before the switch. WIX quality been an issue for some time now.Yep, NAPA has switched over. Purolatoritis infected the WIX filter lines. I can't really blame NAPA for switching to a better quality filter manufacturer.
We obviously can't compete at that quality level for the price we pay for them. All we can do at this point is hope that this puts pressure on U.S. manufacturing to "do better" due to competition.I know it’s cheaper to produce filters overseas; but why not just keep it in the USA if you’re located in Memphis?
I saw this a good while ago. I mentioned it a few threads awhile ago too.
Only problem is ….
These filters are like $12.99 vs Carquest Premium filters being $7.99 or maybe $ 8.99 …
My indy mechanic uses Service Pro Extended Life/Premium Guard XL almost exclusively, his spin-ones are under $5 his cost. He USED to use all NAPA…Just before I grabbed a CQP filter from the Carquest near my condo I looked up the price of a NAPA Gold from the NAPA location a few minutes away from me. It was $16 CDN for the NG and I paid $8.04 CDN for the CQP! Crazy that it is double the price for the identical filter!![]()
As long as they all sell out to multinational corps that do nothing but squeeze out every last penny from formerly great brands, this will continue. We obviously can't compete at that quality level for the price we pay for them. All we can do at this point is hope that this puts pressure on U.S. manufacturing to "do better" due to competition.
Boss seem to be built well. I think some people are turned off by the efficiency. Also make sure the louvers are opened enough.Doesn’t the Purolator Boss pass, and made in USA? I bought a Pentius UFXL for $7 to look at, don’t know if it’s worth it to return, or use it. For a few dollars more can get a Boss? So I think maybe it’s my cheapness that’s the problem. I mean it stays on one year in my case.
I have ten years to drive maybe less, or to live. I am trying to save $35 or something over five years. Even if 22 years old is $7/year something?
I think I just decided for myself.
It sure went up in price I just looked, the next one down, pure one, can be had cheaper, but there it goes again, cheapness on something that lasts a year.Boss seem to be built well. I think some people are turned off by the efficiency. Also make sure the louvers are opened enough.
