I already read the thread, and I’m not ignorant of anything that occurred.

Here's the situation:
Companies are selling defective catalytic converters with their vehicles.
The EPA expects the consumer to pick up the tab, while failing to protect the consumer.
Some people, like myself, have decided not to be involved in this incompetence, and simply not lay out extra cash for a motor vehicle manufacturer's incompetence, nor the government's failure to protect the consumer.
Don't like it? There's nothing that you, Steve, or the other idiot can do about it, except whine and make personal attacks.
While everyone is complaining and accusing, I'll be driving, and not giving a [censored].
My post was more geared towards people who remove perfectly functioning cats in pursuit of more power. But as for you: The automakers are not selling defective catalytic converters. Just because you had one fail doesn’t mean they’re all defective. I have three vehicles that are all over 21 years old, and they all have close to or over 200k miles. They all have their factory original cats and they’re still working perfectly fine, except for one, which I replaced 2 years ago, which was still working fine when I replaced it. The only reason why I replaced it was because the pipe it was attached to was rusted out, and the easiest way to fix it was to just bolt a new cat on. If the pipe hadn’t rusted, and if I wasn’t too lazy to try to remove the pipe from the cat, the original cat would still be there, working fine.
If your water pump failed after 100k, would you say all the automakers are making defective water pumps and complain that you have to pay for it out of pocket? You had a cat fail. It happens. It doesn’t mean they all fail or they’re all defective, and it doesn’t mean you’re entitled to a free replacement. And the proper fix is not to gut it or replace it with a straight piece of pipe, the proper fix is replacing it with another cat. If you want to be a tightwad and not fix your vehicle properly, fine. But I’ll still think you’re a (cheap), inconsiderate douche.
Oh, so you're one of those who would buy a shoddy OEM part instead of an improved aftermarket piece. Ok, thanks. Since you're such a big spender, and I'm such a tightwad, you can pick up the bill.
Where did I say I bought a shoddy OEM part? And I thought you said the aftermarket cats were inferior, just "screens" that have no actual catalyst in them? Now you're saying they're superior? The cat I replaced, as well as the rusted out pipe, were both aftermarket. Yeah, I bought one of those "screens" that don't have any catalyst material in them. I'll let you know how well it works when I get an emissions test in a few months.
I think I'll pass on picking up your repair bill. That would be like hanging out with a friend with a gambling problem at a casino. I prefer to not be an enabler to tightwads.
No, I said that my component was shoddy and defective. You do remember that you came in here commenting on my truck?
If you're not the one who pays the bills, then what you feel about what I'm doing doesn't really matter. You're certainly entitled to your opinions of me. They're just irrelevant.
