My WM now has Rotella GT and a new T6

What would be the advantage of a 15w-40 T6 over a 5w-40? Both are full synthetic, and the 5w-40 is JASO MA approved so ok for bikes, so I'm not sure why a thicker start-up weight would be desirable. Both will thin out at operating temperature, but the 15w will flow worse at startup.

That said, none of the three WMs I visit seem to carry this, at least not yet. Then again, they barely seem to stock the correct Supertech filter for our Versa, XTerra, and pretty much every other Nissan out there.

I can't even find it on WM's website.

Motorcycles are run much harder than car engines. The heavier viscosity allows for heat dissipation as well as shear stability.

I understand that. But both are a full synthetic 40 weight at operating temperature, how does a thicker startup weight help?

Will the 15w40 T6 also meet Jaso-MA specs. Would rather use that than my concoction of Valvoline mc 20w50+10w40 brew. I don't feel like paying for the synthetic motorcycle oil variants but would surely love to try the T6 15w40 in my street bike!

Its for real. Appears like it has just enough extra viscosity in 5w30 flavor (KV100 = 11.7, on the high side) to protect those Ford PU ecoboost fuel diluters from thinning out too much. And Shell says the anti-oxidants are stronger, again to help protect fuel diluting turbo DI engines & give it a little more high temperature resistance.

Shell marketing is relentless.
