I had to drive to Detroit and back today so I took my wifes car since it gets a lot better mileage than my truck. I was suprised at how good it really was. 34.5 MPG over and 35.4 MPG on the way back! (as stated by the information center) This is with 182,000 miles on the odometer. Seemed odd that I could get mileage this good so I double checked by filling it up again, the monitor was right.

As I recall we only got 29 or so MPG when it was new. At this rate I will be getting 40 MPG when the odometer rolls over to 200,000 miles.

We had a 2002 Impala (for a short time before it started giving us problems) and got 36 hwy once, and regularly 33-34.

BobsArmory,

Your lucky....In my 08' Impala my SS indicator has shown nothing better than 18-21 in my car:-( No mater how I drive my baby it just wont get andthing close to at least 25MPG. Does anyone know if I need to reset the indicator to tell if the computers giving me the real skinny?? Or does it just continue to calculate everytime I drive it.

Durango

Durango that depends on if you are using the avg mpg or the instant mpg, there is a way to reset the avg mpg before a trip

My Mazda6 gets virtually the same mpg as my ex's Lumina 3.1.

Right at 30mpg freeway

The Lumina was probably every bit as aerodynamic too. And it was wider than my 6. It did give up about 80 hp to the Mazda and it was the 14" tire model so handling isn't even close.

Say what you will about the W-chassis cars but that was a really good freeway car. Good mileage, comfortable, fairly quiet, very easy to cruise at 70 mph.

i hear customers saying all the time sometimes when an engine has a lot of miles and turns easier and gets better mileage...Do i believe that? Some really believe its true

Yep!

Because of the high mpg reading yesterday I did calculate by hand when I got back into town. It was pretty close +/- .1

Durango, dosen't the SS have a V8 in it? That would account for the milage you were getting.

Well, these Impala's came with a wide variety of V6 engines from 3.1, 3.4, 3.8 and even a V8.

I'll give it to GM! Their V6 engines could often get the MPG of a 4 cyl import if driven properly on the hiwy.

We have traveled much with friends using their car and we using our car. From NY to Myrtle Beach or even down to FL. The MPG in their GM V6 was very close to our 4 cyl import until we started making up time on the hiwy. Only then was there a large difference in MPG where the GM started using fuel at a higher rate than our 4 banger.

In other words, if wer were both achieving 35-36 mpg on the hiwy @ the posted speed limits(state dependent), and we decide to pick up the pace or the next states speed limit went up 10 MPH to 75 MPH(or, shhhh-80-90+mph), the GM would lose ~ 6-8 mpg or more, where our 4 cyl only lost 2-3 mpg.

This was our experience!

But man, when it was time to pass traffic, the GM V6 was hard to keep up with in our 4 cyl!

I'd believe that. All the vehicles with GM's 60 or 90 degree V6's have been excellent highway cars. My old Buick with a 3800 V6 routinely got 35-36 mpg highway.

GM can make a car that gets great highway fuel economy, either 4-cylinder or V6.

My 2004 Monte Carlo SS with the Supercharged 3800 only gets around 25mpg on average with the best of 29 mpg on one tank last year going to Georgia. I always figure mpg by hand as I found that my information center is off by about 2-3mpg higher than figured by hand.

I wonder if you got some real gas with no alcohol in it. this would boost MPG #s.
Still your car weighs a full thousand pounds more than my superbly tuned and maintained, manual trans, and aerodynamic ZX2, and gets similar highway MPG?

Well, it looks like my great mph has come to an end. I think it was due to extra hot temps (103 degrees) and maybe some really good gas. I'm back to 32 mpg average. Still not bad though.

When I check my Acura MDX it is actually off by 1MPG (LOWER). It does slightly better than display.
