My unofficial 50k service

Since my car recently ticked over 50k, I decided it was time for some preventative maintenance. Other than the motor oil, everything on this list is classified as "lifetime" by BMW which I of course don't agree with. A local indy shop is changing the fluids out for me tomorrow since the dealers often won't touch this stuff unless there's actually a problem.

Next major service is at the 60k mark, which is spark plugs, engine oil + filter, rear differential fluid, engine air filter, cabin air filter, and brake fluid. Based on my driving habits, it's probably 18 months away, give or take.

Pentosin CHF202

OEM coolant (Pentosin Pentofrost NF)

Mobil 1 0w40 + OEM oil filter (Mahle OX 254D3)

Motul Multi DCTF + OEM Getrag transmission filter

What Indy shop do you go to? I have a friend looking for a new shop to bring his BMWs. Would they happen to have any knowledge of Jaguars?

Also I see you have 6 liters of ATF. Are you doing just a pan drop and filter change? And only 2 gallons of antifreeze, partial change? Also what is the Pentosin 202 for?

If it's never been done, you may want to change the Brake Fluid.
And if you have it, Power Steering Fluid.

But, I know people who will not touch their vehicle unless something is broke.

The fluid in the left-most part of the pic is the power steering fluid.

He said he's doing the brake fluid in 18 months as per the maintenance schedule.

Brake fluid only has about 14 months and 15k on it. Doesn't need to be changed for a while. And yeah, the two bottles on the far left are power steering fluid.

It's not ATF, it's dual-clutch transmission fluid and is actually similar to a GL-4 manual transmission fluid. It's almost impossible to drain the entire transmission -- 5-6qt is all you can hope for, from what I've read. There's a special procedure where you cycle the pumps with BMW's software since there isn't a traditional drain hole.

The coolant is concentrate, and the CHF 202 is power steering/hydraulic fluid.

I'd add a new PCV valve to the mix, have the throttle plate cleaned maybe, and ask about a new t-stat when you have the coolant changed. I say ask because cost of the part and ease of job influence price.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the car is actually under warranty until 100k/Feb 2017 so I'm not worried about replacing that stuff until it fails.

Throttle plate you say? Is that singular or plural?

Yeah, most guys aren't thinking about the 8 ITB's, LOL!!!

I have been only because I need to remove the entire plenum assembly to change the purge valve for the carbon canister. Not looking forward to that and may hold off until next summer as it doesn't really affect how the car drives.

Those ITB's give the car the throttle response it has though

Nothing like individually controlled runners a few inches long to really bump the responsiveness up a few notches
