Sorry this happened to you. Appears someone returned the container with something other than motor oil in it. Idiots. Don't understand how they resealed the container, but I don't see any other scenario.

Obviously you want to know what happened. I would continue as you are, find out the cause. if blame is on someone else other than you, have insurance give you the replacement value, and then buy this one back cheap from insurance.

Metal bits are not good. I would be very [censored]. All this so someone saved 25.00 on oil, [censored].

Agreed, Hence what I have several containers of goop + solvent.. will continue to research on it.

Research?

Grab a few samples, hit it with some:

- Dawn dishwashing liquid
- Brake Kleen
- Gasoline
- Oven cleaner

Whichever one has the most dramatic effect, use that.

If in fact it turns out to be a tampered with jug of oil, will the retailer who sold it to the op be liable for damage to his vehicle?

Only way i see Mobil taking responsibility is if the lot number on the bottle of oil can be traced down by Mobil as having a problem that caused this.

I was also considering a running 10 min diesel/oil or the BG product mentioned. then oil change, repeat several times. Then have a super low OCI.

Might also try blowing compressed air into the main oil gallery somehow to try and blow out as many galleries as possible. At least enough to help ensure oil gets to all parts of the engine if you run the engine again to try and clean it up with something.

That's where I'd start too ...

I look at it this way - you have $40K invested in this car at least. You like the car and all its accessories. The only bit you are unsure of is the engine. Flush it and fix it, drive on.

I'll bet you a nice lunch that no one will honor the claim ... They will all side step it. In the end, the ball will be in your court.

You should peruse it of course, but it is not likely to go anywhere ...

And please, do not hold your breath waiting

No where near 40k.. it's an 08 with 136k.
The value is 8-10k. From what I see. I bought it used 4 years ago at 18k (should have been 22k)

Sadly, any unscrupulous person can “make” a foil seal. My wife used to work at WalMart and the stories she told would surprise anyone. Used underwear in the packages for example. Some people live to scam others. The perps usually travel in herds. It was common for a group of 10-15 to come in right before closing. The store couldn’t watch all of them.

Funny you mention this, because many years ago when I worked at a music store, people would buy used cd's,and try to return them "re-shrink wrapped". Those losers were buying them, taking them home, copying them, and trying to get money back on a "new" cd. NOPE!

Oh No! I have some of this Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 in my stash, (3) 5qts jugs and (8) quart bottles with the last digits being 5888. I got this on clearance I think at AutoZone. Hopefully this is not bad oil. All bottle caps look unbroken. I have not ran this yet. I will hold off to see the outcome of this topic.

Breaking news.. found something that does dissolve it..Clorinated Brake cleaner!
Things that failed.
Non clorinated brake cleaner.
Gas
Diesel (soften but not totally solvent.)
Kerosene
Seafoam
Atf(at least the Full Synthetic Asia car formula)

Video will be uploaded soon.
No results for UOA yet

UOA is in... I called and ask them to run the TBN..Monday for that.

Of course they asked If I put Lucas in.

I am surprised that there is no metals wear detected. Since I filled the sample from the oil catcher cold I wonder if the metals has gone to the bottom. They sait was so thick that the Vis number could not be obtained.

I am very happy that it was not from a blown head gasket! now I can put the blame on the product. It was not what it should be...

Mobil should be intetested in the jug's lot number, and most importantly the remaining "oil" in the jug for their own analysis.

I wonder if M1 keeps a sample from each batch...
