I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX that I bought used a couple months ago with 135k miles. It now has 138k. It had pretty good main records with it and felt pretty confident about it.
It's had a little problems with rough running, nothing major at all...and if I wasn't so anal I would have left it alone.
About a month ago I used 1/2 can of Seafoam through brake booster line and 1/2 in tank. The 1/2 through brake booster produced very little smoke and I figured either it was ok, or I did it too slow. Well last night I ran a full can through the line. I did it a little faster having to throttle up by hand or it would stall. Man at the smoke produced. I took it for a spirited drive afterwords and it smoked for 5-10 minutes. So much that I was embarrassed at all the smoke coming out of it. It finally quite smoking and I came home and changed oil and filter. I've also ran Auto-Rx this change, so this is rinse until the 2nd application of Auto-Rx.
The car ran noticeably better last night after the treatment. It was smoother, quicker acceleration/throttle response, and a nice suprise...quieter.
I've used Seafoam before, but not with any noticeable results.
Just thought I would pass my experience's along. Hopefully I can nurse this Civic along until at least 250k miles.
