Trying to mow my wet grass and I was slip sliding all over. Bought new tires and wheels and installed them in 5 minutes.

Changed the oil and sharpener the blades and I should be good to go.

First tires lasted 10 years but have been smooth for a long time.

I've seen videos of people hot knifing tread into bald tires. I wonder if your old tires would've had enough meat to do this to save a couple bucks.

Nice! The treads are almost completely gone on the drive wheels of my 21" Snapper, but so is the deck unfortunately. It's only 12yrs old too.

Side note --

As I was sharpening the blades - in place with one of those grinders you put on a drill -

I noticed the belt that drives the self propelled wheels had jumped its pulley and was just riding on the shaft of the motor - between the pulley and the blades.

So I put it back on the pulley - had to remove a guard - and I don't see how the belt could get off track with the guard in place.

I always wished the mower was a little faster - :ROFLMAO:

I mowed today and if I push the "ears" that control the speed all the way down I almost have to jog to keep up.

My guess is the belt was installed incorrectly from the factory and I have been using it this was for 10+ years.

The area below the pulley looks like shinny steel - the pulley looks unused.

I have removed the bladed a few times to sharpen them - never even noticed the belt was installed wrong.

Wife and I bought out house in 1988 - it was a stretch money wise - drained our savings.

I needed a mower - so I went to Builders Square and they had 20" mowers on sale for super cheap - $69 or $79 I can't recall.

I figured I would buy the cheap mower - hope it lasted a couple years - and then buy a better one when money was not so tight.

That mower - with a Tecumseh engine ran and ran and ran - after 10+ years the deck rusted out so bad one wheel fell off. I drilled a hole in the dock and reinstalled it!

The handle broke off - so I cut it short - pounded it flat - drilled two holes and reattached it.

My wife lover it - she is short (5'2") and the shorter handles were a perfect fit. She started mowing the lawn!!

Then the top of the deck rusted out - I used "silver" tape to patch it.

When my daughter and her husband bought a house in 2007 they didn't have a mower - and were tight on cash. I had purchased a new mower but the old Tecumseh was still running. I gave it to them.

They used it for several years - I retaped the deck a few times.

They bough a new mower and ask if I wanted the old one back - I said no.

It was sad to see it out by the trash - but a neighbor ask if they could have it - my SIL said sure it still runs.

I would - every once in a while see the neighbor mowing his grass with my old Tecumseh mower -that would have been ~~ 2009 - 2010 - and it was >22 years old.

I recall seeing it smoking pretty bad - but still cutting grass.

Best mower ever -----------------
