HAHA! yeah his still has one. Thanks for asking lol. Funny you say that because it wsa full at 6.5 qts on the dipstick. Weird I know. I didn't want to overfill however. I told him to keep an eye on it and top up his next fuel stop.

It's possible, depending on how you did your oil change. I use an oil extractor on mine. There will always be some oil left in the oil filter housing that will not flow to the pan. I just suck that oil out directly from the housing. Maybe that's why I'm able to put in 7 quarts and still not be over max.

However, it's also entirely possible that his oil capacity is just slightly smaller.

yes, It's probably the left over oil from the filter housing. I just put it on ramps, unplugged and drained. BTW, what is the best filter to use for his car, OEM? Is the Bosch okay? Thanks for all your replys.

Can't go wrong with OEM. That's what I've always used on mine. There are several OEM manufacturers... Mann, Mahle/Knecht, Hengst, all comparably good, IMO. At $6 online, they're also inexpensive.

Can't comment on the Bosch one, but it's probably OK, too.

Bosch cartridge oil filter for 325i is actually more expensive than Mann on Amazon and Rockauto. It may not an indication of better quality all the time but it's usually does.

This may not apply to the BMW application. And, I only used a Bosch cartridge filter once, so my experience is related to one filter.
I used a Bosch cartridge filter on my 2000 Volvo S70. When I did my next oil and filter change, the filter had collapsed on one side. I have never seen that before. I typically use Mayle filters but have used other brands. I have not retried a Bosch cartridge after that experience.
I also have a 2002 BMW 530i. I use the Mann OEM filter. IF you do comparison shopping on-line, you can find this for just over $5.
