My Ford let me down.

IF this truck isn't driven much, or is very gently, it could just be 'carboned up'? Maybe a fuel injector cleaning, or a good italian tune-up would blow some junk out?

Bet some of the ignition wires have popped loose. I put wires on a car recently, and the dielectric grease was so slick and the wires so airtight that a couple of them popped right off, and I had to push them back down again and hold for a while.

It could still be an intermittant problem like a bad coil that only acts up in certain conditions like rain or extreme heat. If you did get a tank of bad gas, I would at least change out the fuel filter, as someone suggested. Keep an eye on it. You might try looking at the engine run in total darkness to locate any arching.

fwiw, I agree with that one. The newer 4.6L (2V) actually recommend a fuel filter change every 30k. Not that expensive to replace and not a bad place to start.

I think a fuel filter change is in order. I would also stay away from fuel addictive and try to pump at Shell, Exxon, Mobil, BP, or any big name company instead of Sheetz and Wawa. The exception to the rule is Gitgo, I have great luck with the station half a mile from me.

I would say this car is still a virgin for Ford build quality of yesteryears. I see a lot of Fords, Chevy, and Dodge from the 80s and 90s on the road with more than 200k miles on them. The funny thing is that their odometer reset at 100k; therefore, they could have more than 300k for all we know. Quality really took a nap on America cars in the late 90s to the present. I recently took a 2009 Dodge Avenger out for business trip. It is a part of the company motor pool. While the car rode nice and has nice feel to it, it is simply no match for Japanese quality. The headliner was already sagging for a car with less than 600 miles. The engine sounds good and may last for a long time but I highly doubt it because QC is very bad with many American models now since we don't take pride in our products any more.

I love to get me a good American truck from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s knowing that it will last a very long time.

That sounds like a problem. I would probably find excuse to drive it around until it use up a little gas and fill it up with Shell Premium gas. Then I'll find other excuse to take a vacation to rid it off the bad gas.
