My 99 SS camaro with the LS1 has 66K on the clock. The oil may have performed well but it used almost 2 quarts in 3000 miles. It has never used any oil of any type before.

Amsoil SSO should be here tomorrow

Is this the first time for PP in your car? Could take a few OC's for things to settle down when changing to a different brand of oil.

The SSO will thank you for doing a flush before installing it

That's OK ARB1977 the Taco will appreciate the flush too! Guys PP is a solid GIII oil it just sometimes takes a little while to bed in so to speak. I ran it in my old 1992 LT1 Corvette when I didn't have quick access to Amsoil for a year and a half (2 oil changes) and the consumption was initially high, but slowed down.

LMAO! That was rather amusing. I think PP is good oil but dang my car sure did use alot of it.

It can take up to 5k miles for some oils to full seat. Oil consumption usually levels off after that.

I had some consumption in all my vehicles with the first one or two OCI's. Then it subsided to almost zero. The 145k lexus still uses about 1/2 qt in 5000 miles.

Make sure you let us know how the SSO goes............

I switched to PP a couple times, ran it 7,000 miles in a 80k - 100k 5.3L and it doesn't use any oil !! Huh.

It's a little early to tell, but my Buick with the 3.8 engine has used about a pint in 2600 miles on its first fill of PP. I'm running it out to 5000 in 6 months; I'll report if it uses any more, and if it uses any on the October oil change.

Well we utilized PP 10-30 in the 408 Stroker and other high performance Chevy Shortblocks all over 600 RWHP. Have no usage issues at all. Cannot speak to the 5-30. We swapped the Stroker over to Shaeffers Series 7000 10-30 and got back the best UOA we ever had. The Shaeffers is the real deal in high performance motors IMHO and experience.

That is a drastic change!
I really don't know what is supposedly 'seating in' or otherwise accomodating the engine/oil relationship.
From zero use to 1 qt in 1,500 miles needs further investigation.
If another oil cures it, that makes it more remarkable.

I know for sure it was the oil. I have never had to top it off since i owned this car untill I used PP. Im not sure what it is about PP that does this but I have seen it mentioned on this forum many times.

I've run two 5k-6k OCIs of PP (one 5w30 and one 10-30) in my Dodge Intrepid 3.5L engine. Oil consumption has increased. I added 1 quart during the first PP OCI, and 2 quarts during the second. I could've added another half-quart, but I decided to change it out. I'm trying Valvoline Maxlife 10w30. The viscosity of this is a little higher than PP. Not sure if that will help, but we'll see. If this works out maybe I'll try the Valvoline full synthetic.

I wonder if a good stragety when switching to synth would be to go with a heavy visc for the original fill, say 10w30 since PP 10w30 does have decent volitility.
