My additive addiction finally paid off!

Today I went in for my state inspections and being I live in PA, I had to submit to the dread emissions exam.

I was mostly worried about that rather than the safety exam. The car is 14 years old, 182K, and still on the OEM O2 sensor I believe. My mileage isnt very good,20mpg for a 2.5L daytona stinks. I was figuring it was belching out the unburned fuel or something. I have run tons of cleaners and such in it to help make it run smoother and increase mileage. And they did. Was still pretty tense over the exam though. Well results came back pretty quick, she aced it!

CO:
IDLE Limit 1.2% Reading 0.09%
2500RPM Limit 1.2% Reading 0.09%

HC:
IDLE Limit 220ppm Reading 37ppm
2500RPM Limit 220ppm Reading 30ppm

The guy there told me that was really clean for a car is this age and mileage. So proud of my little car

I may not have scientific proof that the adds are what helped clean the system and make it perform like this but I really think it was. This car has had at least 3 bottles Regane, 2 Techron, and a boatload of misc adds. For the last few months its been on a diet of Lucas and MMO and seems to like both alot. But in the tank it tested on there was no adds in it. I just wanted pure gasoline in there.

good idea most fuel additives have a mineral oil or kerosene cut diluant in them and they will raise the HC.

Thats what I heard, same for ones with solvents like toluene and acetone.

really? a while back I had a 1991 toyota camry with over 200k that failed emissions mutliple times. i think the cat was plugged. anyway, I put some bardhals fuel treatment in, drove 50 miles, went back to the testing station and easily passed. i don't have the records anymore so I'm not sure how it affected the HC levels.

I know in turbos increased toluene can cause excessive richness, but that's in larger quantities...

Doesn't matter, Louisiana doesn't have emissions testing outside the Baton Rouge/New Orleans corridor.

I passed the Nevada smog test with Regane in the tank. But here, they only hook up to the ODB2 and let the computer tell the machine how things are going on 96' and up cars. No particle counts, so this may not count.

Do not know what Bardal uses BUT things like MMO with mineral oil/kerosene can NOT be clean burning. And things like toluene/acetone MAY help the burn or at least clean out some gunk that mebe causing high HC numbers I'm not a fuel guy but common sense.

I have passed emission tests with MMO and
stabil in the gas. If you want to lower HC
dump some ethanol in the tank.
That's the nice thing about the emission test
If man can make it man can break it
