So I went to the shop to have my cat replaced because everything else checked out. This time they checked the fuel pressure. The pressure was 47lbs and is supposed to be at 50-53 is what they said. My guess is fuel filter. The regulator is made into the fuel filter. What do you guys think? Car runs great very smooth .

How did they verify that everything else "checked out"?

Saturn put all the fuel stuff in the tank in 1997. If you had a flow restriction like from a bad filter the pressure would go down when you get on it. If you don't, pressure will go up, as it needs it to rise so the injectors fight the lack of vacuum. This is why they used to have vacuum-tied pressure regulators on fuel rails with return systems.

I think these mechanics are looking for a cop out so they don't have to fix your cat again. If they can't sell a part that meets EPA specs they need to stop and buy better stuff, or they'll get comebacks like you.

Irregardless these mechanics are grasping at straws. Don't let them rattle you.

Also the cat has an EPA warranty of at least 25k miles. You don't have a misfire code so your car is running well enough to not invalidate the warranty.

Gm says the pressure should be around 40-55. So 47 is cImpletely nornal . I'm getting extremely frusterated. The kid that works there was like all I've owned is Saturn's blah blah blah. I honestly don't care I just want my car fixed.

They were hoping a 14 year old car would bring them some diagnostic work. It's in good shape. Read the warranty on the receipt you have and, well, throw a fit.

You must look like a "mark" being a young dude. Don't give up. Say you spoke on the phone and were promised a new cat and you're not leaving until you get one. Block a bay door and be a jerk, whatever it takes.

I'm going down there again in 20 mins. Ought to be fun

someone may end up getting an attitude adjustment . Believe me I don't mind giving one. I hate being lied to!!

Earlier I had said that you found an honest and decent shop. Obviously this development shows that is not the case. I was actually surprised when they said they will replace the converter.

So far I am running two out of two :-)

Put the O2 extender and spend your free time with your two year old. Play with him and put your truck/car trouble on the back burner.
