I used to have up to 3 cats at various times with my kids in the house.

The simple facts are this: if your cat NEVER goes outside he will not need any of the regular vet stuff. They're just like car dealers, they recommend unneeded services to generate revenues.

Even the vet has to make a living!

I've a cat 16 as well. Please, if you have not yet done this, take him in for a check up. As they age, cats tend to have problems with their kidneys and thyroids. Being that he lost weight, he probably will need thyroid medicine. I had another cat that at 15 needed this and it was just a cream you rubbed on his ear once a day. As for the kidneys, you gotta roll with it and changing his food goes a long way.

Good looking cat, too.

True. None of my many cats ever had shots or other vet preventative care. Indoor cats don't need much of this...there is a risk with mosquitos giving them heartworm or other issues if one gets in the house, though.

But as they age, I do recommend blood work to see if any health issues are coming on as you see changes with age. That can save their life.
