MTL peaked,now it`s getting notchy.

The MTL was shifting really smooth,but now it`s beginning to get notchy,especially when the transmission is good and hot.

So,I stopped by NAPA on the way home from work just now and bought a 4 quart jug of Sta-Lube GL4 85W90 gear oil. I`m going the other extreme and getting the thickest *GL4 only* gear oil I could find and see what happens (I still have a 4 quart stash of Nissan 75W85 GL4 MTF for emergency).

I noticed they had the GL4 85W90 (the one I bought.....$18 for a 4 quart jug) with no limited slip that said made for manual transmissions and a GL5 85W90 with limited slip for rear differentials in that brand. So this weekend I`ll install it and see what happens.

Shouldn't Nissan owner forums have ironed this out by now? I use a mix of MTL/MT-90 and seems to be good even after 30K (Toyota); perhaps you should look @ MT-90 or Amsoil's products before throwing maple syrup in there.

What does the car call for? The Nissan fluid at 75w-85 GL4?

MTL does not really fit that bill.... MT-90 I would assume to be a better choice. Consider Amsoil MTG as well, which if I remeber is the right choice.

Makes sense that MTL would do as well .... but then again, it doesn't.

Isn't a 50/50 mix of Redline MT-90/MTL popular on the Z forums?

I use 2 qts MT-90 and one qt MTL in my Fusion (Mazda G5M transaxle) and love the stuff, from -1 to 100 (F) it shifts like 'butta!

In the owner`s manual it has a long list for various temperature ranges (75W,80W,75W90,80W90,and 85W140) for the manual transmission.

I didn't like the feel of MTL in my particular trans.
I tried a 50/50 mix of MTL and MT90 , and it is some of the best sauce that I have tried.
