Quite an interesting read. Design wise though, I quite like the front end. Rear is a disappointment, as others have already pointed out. Although my favourite still remains the MKIII Z28 IROC:

I like the looks of the new Camaro but would much rather have this car.

No kidding, although I think these cars will be in the 40K range, still not cheap but not crazy either.

I'm going to school now, Hopefully I'll be able to get one of these someday!

I could see me with a hot stang. My truck is enuff trouble. lol I had a couple of race cars on the street. Now you can buy what u used to have to build.

I think more like 48K but ya I'd take one too. For that kinda money tho I'd still rather go C6.

Base SS goes for $30k. The SS was tested against the Challenger and Stang GT w/ track pack in one of the car rags.

The Muststrange GT was about $35k and the Challenger was like $38k. The SS was $32k as tested. If you option the SS with stupid unneeded stuff like 22" wheels and body moldings you get into the 40's.

The SS won the test by the way and was the cheapest.

So what is the thread trying to prove. GM has made a winner...will people buy it is the question.

IT IS A BEST IN CLASS CAR for 2010.

Beautiful car. I remeber when I worked at WM years ago, a guy came in to get an oil change done on a Camaro just like this, only it was blue w/black stripes. He put Castrol Syntec Blend 10W-30 in it, I remember that!

Love the look of the new Camaro, can't wait to see how my Stang does against one.

Not sure anything is done to yours, but if MT can handle a new Camaro to 13 flat at 111mph, the new GT doesn't stand a chance

It's interesting these days how much coupes weigh. Although it is lighter than the challenger.

The Camaro's reign will be short, as the GT gets 400 HP next year.

until the z28 is released.... I'd imagine with the 400hp the GT will get, it will probably run close to what the average person could run a termi at.

The Z/28 has been "postponed indefinitely" based on the last news I heard.

And like OVERK1LL already said, there's always the GT500. It's up to 540 HP this year and still weighs about the same as the SS.

Yes, the Z/28 was supposed to be the "top dog" GT500 competitor. It was going to get the LSA (CTS-V's supercharged 6.2 - 550 hp), but word from GM is that the car has been postponed indefinitely because they are worried the car sends the "wrong message". I guess that's what happens when the government has their hands around your throat.

Strange. I don't see how it's any more 'wrong' than the GT500 or Challenger SRT8. Whatever...I don't want a V8 anyway, but I do hope they don't cancel the convertible.

From 1967-69 the Z/28 would have certianly had more performance cache than the SS models. The Z/28 was considered one of the best all round muscle cars of its time, good power, good handling and brakes. The 302 Chevy was the closest thing to s street legal race engine in the Camaro engine line-up (with a few rare exceptions like the ZL1 427). The SS350 and SS396 were definitely not in the same class as the Z/28.

Throughout the 1970's the Z/28 was always the top performer as well. Early 70's models featured the first LT-1 350 that put out as much power as some big blocks.

It wasn't until recent times that the SS made it's comeback and it was "ranked" higher than the Z-28. So IMO, the Z-28 deserves to be the top dog.

It's not strange at all. The government has no investment in Ford and thus business decisions are still 100% up to Ford management, and it had no hand in Chrysler back when the SRT8 was green-lighted.

The managers weren't worried about offending Obama's "advisory panel" back then.

Besides, the SRT-8 (425 HP) is more of an SS competitor anyway, the GT500 is a major step up from that.

In addition to the historical correctness, it also fits in with GM's current marketing scheme as the "Z" models are the top dogs in the Corvette lineup (ZO6, ZR1). The Z/28 just makes more sense in that light.

I actually hope the Z/28 makes it to production, but it doesn't sound like it is going to.
