MSI Netbook Memory upgrade

I would say it should make a fairly big difference. But I just stayed at a holiday Inn..............

All the computers I've done have always made a noticeable different.

It'll depend on the operating system you're using on your netbook.

1gb is a good amount for a Windows XP system, and there is a noticable improvement when going up from 512mb. Not so much when going from 1gb to 2gb. Anything more than that is probably a waste, especially considering what you're using a netbook for. It's not like you're gaming on it. Surfing and email and chatting does not tax a system, even a slow one like a netbook. Besides, 32-bit XP will not recognize and use much more than 3.5gb or so anyway.

Like XP above, Windows 7 Starter is also 32-bit and will not make good use of anything near 4gb, but it's still Windows 7 and it does like memory, so 2gb is a good amount.

So really, 2gb in a netbook is plenty unless you're doing something with it above and beyond what it's designed for. And you also have to take into account that your netbook may not take more than 2gb anyway.

It's Win 7, 64 bit. I didn't want a gimp system. It came with 2GB and has two slots but only one is usable, and it accepts 4GB. Well I mean I do run GIMP on it. I have a speedy wireless connection. 320GB HD.

I used company funds to buy a 4GB stick from Newegg for $99. I'll post any results.

Depends on what you use the machine for. Where I work we can use every single bytes out there and even for HD performance we need dual SSD, but if you are only browsing web probably another 4GB won't help that much.

didn't realize that 2GB to 4GB on a netbook would yield such positive results! Thanks for the feedback.

Vista has that Readyboost thing. Win7 makes it better. Some of your oft-used programs are loaded into memory so when you do use them, they are much faster than if they were pulled off the hard disk traditionally (like WinXP).

Good to know. Do you have a link to that product? I might just pick one up for my Asus version of that netbook.

need to add, Readyboost does nothing for Java-based programs as those are compiled and run when you use them, very different...not just run like a traditional program.

Thanks Pabs!

Aside, we have an Asus loaner netbook just like the MSI, a person at work borrowed it and now wants to buy their own. These things just sell themselves!

And the screen quality...$1500 units don't offer a screen this clear or color-rich!
