Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage is fairly new compares with Valvoline Maxife, many drivers had good results with ML therefore they keep buying/using it.

$5 per 5,000 miles OCI is 10 pennies per 100 miles which is almost nothing to worry about, the gas money for that distance can be as much as $15-20.

Mobil Super 5000 is conventional oil
Mobil Super High Mileage is synthetic blend
The valvoline Maxlife listed is a synthetic blend
Valvoline Maxlife is also available in a full synthetic as well

I have never seen the Mobil High Mileage before.

The first link is NOT Mobil Super HM (it is Mobil Super 5000), the second link is Mobil Super HM. Either W-M is showing the wrong picture or has the wrong description on the first link. All of the Mobil Super 5000 I have seen in W-M has a red cap and MSHM has a blue cap.

You are so correct. They used the wrong picture for the Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage oil.
The SuperTech High Mileage oil link still shows Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage as $12.97. It also shows Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage with a blue cap priced at $15.47.

The link I see for the Mobil super 5000, has a red stripe on the label and a red cap for 12.97
The Mobile Super HM has a blue stripe and blue cap for 15.47. I have also seen Mobil Super Synthetic with a silver stripe and cap but not at Walmart.

Actually the bottle with the res stripe and cap is Mobil Super. 5000 miles of protection is just a description not part of the name.

For the price I would try the Mobil High Mileage. I have the Valvoline synthetic blend HM in my car now. Besides the valves being a tad noisier than the last oil (that one seemed too thick), I am very impressed with it. I would buy it again if I see it on sale.

I've never used the Mobil but have used Maxlife a LOT. Great stuff, it has been excellent long term in several of our vehicles. Since the price difference between the two is about a gallon of gas, I'd get Maxlife.
 
Funny this thread has popped up because I'm having this debate with myself right now. Probably gonna go Mobil because I'm not big on Valvoline. That or Pennzoil High Mileage.

How come Maxlife is basically the only HM that people talk about here? What's wrong with GTX HM, Pennzoil High Mileage, etc?

I too often wonder this same thing. But, it is a proven High Mileage oil. It has helped my son's Corolla engine oil consumption. Also, my dad used Valvoline MaxLife and a bottle of Lubra-Moly to stop a RMS oil leak.

Nothing. They are all good oils. People around here tend to jump on bandwagons for products. Fwiw, the touted Valvoline MaxLife that people rave about is NOT the current SN version. Ashland changed Maxlife to meet API specs for SN. I'd used whatever HM you want and if it doesn't mitigate your issues, then pick another one.
 
I have used them both a few times both are good oils. Valvoline MaxLife is usually only $2 more than Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage. To me Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage seemed to make the my cars run smoother and quieter than Valvoline MaxLife. Which is why I have been moving away from Valvoline oils even though I have been using them for 18yrs, they do a great job but I just like a quieter, smoothing running car. I have been leaning towards Quaker State oils lately, going to put Quaker State Ultimate Durability in the Forte on its next OC.
 
Was he using the Valvoline MaxLife to combat a specific issue? Or just 'insurance'? Did it solve any issues for him?

How many miles and what's the application? Is there a manufacture's spec for this engine?

If he didn't have any issues, and doesn't now I'd switch to the Mobil Super 5000 and give it a try. Saves a few bucks, as you stated.

Interesting you say that, because I know with my truck Valvoline conventional ran loud, with Pennzoil conventional being slightly quieter, and then Quaker State Conventional running noticeably quieter than both. I trust them all for wear protection but prefer quieter characteristics and it has made me a big fan of Quaker State.
