About 1 and a half months ago I bought a $100 COBY slim MP3 player from Canadian Tire. Looked REALLY cool, touch screen buttons, movie player, photo viewer, and recorer. Used it for a week and you get.. no movies (chinese video converter dosent work) (it is what was included), a nice scratched screen, a nice scratched back, half functioning touch buttons and a low-life battery. BTW battery meter said full before it shut down because of low battery.

At Future shop they have a nice Sansa MP3 and video player for 80 bucks, friend has had same model for 4 months and loves it. And sure enough the Sansa :
*Looks better
*Long battery life
*accurate battery meter
*wide, scratch resistant screen
*software you can actually use

AND overall quality.

Back of mp3 player says "Designed in USA Made in CHINA

NEVER BUYING COBY PRODUCTS AGAIN.

The fact that it was sold at a tire store wasn't enough of a red flag?

Canadian Tire is a big retail store in Canada. It's like a less-corrupt Wal Mart with more focus on tools and automotive, but they sell everything.

Yeah, the Coby is garbage...my neighbour got one, ----.

I really like the Sandisk Sansa products. I've had a few of their mp3 players and they've all been awesome. Zero problems.

Hate to say it, but the only players that seem to hold up are Ipods. I bought a popular name brand mp3 player last year, and it's garbage. It locks up, shuts off, etc, etc.

I really wanted to like this player, because I'm a Windows guy, and I don't want to deal with Itunes. But it just wasn't a very good product.

My girlfriend has an Ipod she uses everyday, and has never had a problem with it.

i have said this before but you can pick up a nice razr phone on ebay and stick a 2 gig memory card into it for the price of an ipod. you don't have to activate any cell phone service to use the mp3 player. then you get a good battery that should last for quite a few years, and when it does go dead, its easily replacable.

My Cowon T2 is a nice little player but it gets NO support from the home office. It's tiny, inexpensive and plays .FLAC format. Anything else like that available?

My wife really enjoys her Clix v.2. 8GB, plays movies and so forth, although at a limited framerate. Still, it's just fine for entertainment out of a little bitty screen. What was that recent Boston crime movie recently with Jack Nicholson? I watched the whole thing on a Clix.

Creative Zen ?

Well, Ive had my Zen Micro for over a year now, which use I a lot for jogging.....even took a 35 day European backpacking vacation with me, and it still works great.

Why I choose it over the "I-" players:

1-Uses 1 standard (or rechargable) AAA battery and lasts me 16 hours.

2- I can plug it into any electronic device with a 'line out' port (think headphone jack, for instance) and record form said device onto my mp3 player....no need for a computer.

3- I get about 15 cds onto my player.....I dont need (nor want) my entire collection on my device. If you cant keep yourself occupied wiht 18+ hours of music, get some better taste in music.

4- It cost me $30.00. I hate I tunes and hate apple even more. So it was a political decision as well to go for a non-apple player....vote with your $$$$$$!
