You had me confused for bit. I was thinking of "Big Fan", since I had watched that recently. I do remember The Fan, but no details other than Snipes and DeNiro. Big Fan was worth watching.

My favorite Clint Eastwood film is High Plains Drifter. It was made in 1973 up at Mono Lake just east of Yosemite. I just loved the performance of Verna Bloom in that film. It is hard to think on how long ago that movie was made, 38 years! Time flies.

Well, the original source story was Stephen King's novelette "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," which came out in his Different Seasons collection in '82 or so. So the question we should be asking ourselves is, "Do ya feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?"

Oh. Wait. Wrong movie.

So was King's story based on true events? No idea. I suspect he might have been inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo and its jailbreak. But along with "The Body" in the same collection (the basis for "Stand by Me"), it's one of King's finest works.
