Mouse Visiting Car

It's become apparent that we have a mouse paying daily visits to the Mountaineer. Kids make a mess so crumbs, etc were a source of food, droppings everywhere, stupid rodent chewed on a plastic water bottle and one of the kids toys. No sign of a mouse the whole time the family and I were in NC, once we got home, he's back visiting again. My wife cleaned the car top-to-bottom yesterday, set a 'humane' trap like this last night:

Jerk rodent came through again, shat everywhere and didn't find any food, managed to avoid the PB & bread loaded trap. So at this point I'm ready for a lethal trap.

Any advice on getting rodents out of cars? I can't even think of where he could be getting in, no sign of him bothering with my car at all.

Lucky you. My cats are indoors and overweight/old and have lost any killer instinct they may have had.

I will keep these in mind. The reason I liked this trap was because it was no mess and it was easily re-usable. It worked well for a few mice we had in the house... they got stuck in it, I would take them down the road a piece and unload them into a wooded area.

As stated above, this trap I'm trying to use now was very effective in the house, no good in the car, though.

We use the old fashion spring loaded mouse trap and peanut butter for bait .

Remember Mom & Dad using the same design of mouse trap when I was a little pup .

If it works , do not fix it . Just be ultra careful when setting one ot that design . Or you will not have to be reminded the second time . Kind of like M1 thumb . :-)

Yep, the good old Acme mouse traps. Good for outside of the car. Inside the car, you may have to cleanup afterwards.

Do you have a cabin filter? I'm wondering if it's chewed through by now. I'm also wondering where it gets in, and if something can be put there to block. Or least slow them down (until they chew through again).

Get the mice problem resolved and fast. This car I'm working on as a DD to save money on gas has been devastated by mice. Problems everywhere. In the vents, in the seats. They even dragged car insulation into the evap system. A bucket of water with access by a wood ramp, bird seed or sunflower seeds floating around should get rid of them over a few nights. Mice are no joke. They can and will destroy that car.

I'm not sure how it's getting in, as such can't be sure just by putting traps outside the car, but seeing how there's usually 4 in a pack maybe I would put some in the garage and one or two in the car. Don't like the idea of cleanup but the car is parked outside, so I don't want to risk injuring or killing some other animal that isn't messing with my car.

No cabin filter, I'm guessing he has to be getting in through the outside air intake for the heater/AC.

This is what I'd like to avoid. I'm astonished as the car is driven every few days usually... I had always thought that mice only took up residence in long-sitting cars. Is the bucket of water really an effective trap? It sounds too simple to really work but I may try it combined with some PB-loaded snap traps.

Water buckets and bird seed is what I use for all kinds of rodents especially chipmunks. Chipmunks somehow get out of snap traps. But yes if you have the victor traps, use them too.

Yeah.. People don't understand all right.

Poison it so the darn thing dies inside the dash and rots...

I had mouse problems too and dealt with them with poison.
Years later there was no more mice problems and they didn't die in the car. They went somewhere else to die.

Poison is made to get the mouse thirsty and go out of car or house looking for water. Not saying that happens 100% of the time.

Do not use poisin if you have pets or neighbors you like have pets.

Last night I never got a chance to get to the store so I figured I would give the live trap one more try. I washed it thorougly with soap and hot water, handled it with disposable gloves and then re-loaded it with fresh PB and a tiny bit of bread. I placed it on the passenger's seat with the 'tunnel' up against the center console.

Lo and behold at 630 this morning I had a passenger to take to work with me. I got to my workplace (15 miles from home) and released the guy into the woods surrounding the parking lot. The mouse had some big ears and was quite a bit larger overall than I thought it would be. Tonight I will clean and re-place the trap in the car to see if he had any friends.
