Mount and Road Force Balance Cost

That's cheaper than 10 years ago but more expensive than going to discount tires and them doing it for free :D

Haha I've been to DT and they don't actually do a RFB, as far as I can tell. Maybe if you beat it out of them. They also nicked up my wheels pretty bad.

The local place I go to has been in business for several decades and we're on the same page about how many pounds of road force variation are acceptable.

The price is high for sure, but kind of curious what folks are paying these days.

If I recall correctly, it was nearly $80-100 at NTB and DT (if you didn't buy from DT) a few years ago. I think there was a chain shop that used to charge by the wheel diameter too.

RFB requires Skills, so how can one judge by price alone.

Do any of the OEMs do this other than the exotics like Ferrari, Lambo, or even AMG and M cars? Maybe if it was a $300 tire it may be worth it, but on a normal car driven at legal speeds, is it needed?

The OEM's have specs for both tires and wheels, so they don't need to do a RFB. They know what the max values are going to be.

You can look up installers on the Tire Rack. Look for a Firestone Auto Care as I think they might? do Road Force balancing by default?

Example that applies to me for pricing: https://www.tirerack.com/installer/...6.00&zipCode=43065&checkout=false&saved=false
I'm aware of that locator tool on their website. However, IME, they don't actually vet some of these people. I went to a Firestone that TireRack's website directed me to, and they did not have a functioning Hunter machine.

$63/tire after tax.

More than double what I paid 2 Summers ago.
In other news, my local guy nicked up my wheels pretty bad. I just spotted it this morning. This is the first time. Normally they're pretty good.

Feeling very disappointed. Is there no mechanic out there that takes pride in their work? Ugh.

What balance machines did they have? Most shops I've seen have the hunter road force balancers. When I worked at Hyundai, we had a hunter road force balancer.
Well it depends on the specific location, but their flagship website claims it's part of their services, so all should have it, theoretically. If you search around here and other forums, most will tell you they were in and out in 20 minutes so unlikely anything but static balancing was done.

The biggest problem with paying extra for the road force is the person doing the balancing.. If he/she does not take there time or know what they are doing the extra money just goes down the drain...

I agree. That's why I insist on getting the results printed out on my work order. I had the two rears done and they came out at 5 and 6#, which is pretty much the lowest I ever see.

Me too. I like all of them to be under 10....If not I ask them to redo it like maybe remounting the tire or I want another tire...I usually have no problem getting those readings with Michelin tires...
