Hi Guys,

So I found cheap Motul Oil 8100 X-cess 5w40 LL-01 approved this is what I need for E90.

It says that its 100% synthethic .. but the pour point just at Pour point ASTM D97 -36°C / -32.8°F - this is pretty low ... I guess this oil is ... Group 3

any opinions ?

Long story short, don't worry about pour point unless you plan to drive where temperatures get that low.

First, the number on the spec sheet might not even be accurate. It might have been copied from another data sheet from a different oil and just not changed.

Even if it's real, it doesn't say much about the oil. A group III product could have a low pour point if it has a heavy dose of pour point depressants in it, and a group IV/V could have a fairly unimpressive pour point if it has no pour point depressants in it (e.g. Motul 300V).

M1 0w40 vs Motul 5w40 ?

What is your opinion on this.

I prefer M1 0W-40 for it's higher 187 VI (SM Cdn version) vs only 172 for Motul.
That said I wouldn't hesitate to use the Motul 8100 5W-40 especially for summer use if it could be gotten for less than M1.

That's the thing, M1 0W-40 is virtually impossible to beat for value.

The 300v 0W-40 coming out soon supposedly has a decent VI (in the low 190 or so range I am told by their techs).
