MOTUL HYBRID 0W-8 VOA or UOA?

Hey everyone,

I was searching around BITOG and other toyota/lexus forums looking to see if anyone has some UOA or VOAs regarding motul's hybrid 0w-8 oil and couldn't find anything. So I decided to make this thread in case anyone has some UOA's or VOA's that they have stumbled upon for this oil that I haven't seen yet. Or if anyone has some data on the additive package in this oil.

The reason why I am asking is because my new 2025 lexus hybrid requires 0W-8 oil, and it's time for an oil change (and I don't want to go with 0W-16 or anything else to avoid the potential of voiding my warranty). I did look at TGMO 0W-8, but it would be ~$22/bottle locally, and I would need 5 bottles for an oil change. So I'd prefer to go aftermarket given the aftermarket oil is good quality of course.

Also here in Canada we don't have the mobil1 offerings readily availabe at the store yet (motul is indeed available at lordco), and HPL is going to be too expensive to import and at that point I'd probably just stick with toyota genuine stuff.

Anyways thanks for the help!

Second off, there was no definitive answer from anything I could find. Only tgmo voa and uoa. So there's no answer to the question - if readily available aftermarket fluids like motul would be as good.

For what it’s worth, I seriously doubt any warranty issues would arise from the use of 0W16. If it’s more available I’d use that instead.

I’m currently using Edge 0W20 in our Toyota spec’d for 0W16 while still under warranty at 25K miles.
Unfortunately it's not that readily available either, only mobil1 0w-16 and motul vs. TGMO.

But my main question is, if this aftermarket stuff is as good and if it should even be a consideration since the TGMO stuff does seem pretty good with it's stout additivr package.

If it meets JASO GLV-1 it meets the spec. MOTUL is a respectable oil blender so it will be just as good as TGMO in the real world.

I hope so, I see the hths that motul publishes isn't very high, so a lot of the protection is likely going to rely on the anti-wear additives. This has me concerned because we have zero clue what the additive package is going to be, and if they're going to be high enough that this won't be an issue.

It’s 0W-8. Can’t expect it to have 4.1 HTHS or something crazy. JASO GLV-1 is the spec Toyota calls for, if the MOTUL meets it then job done. It will be suitable.

That sucks. I have owned two Toyota’s spec for 16 and have used all kinds of brands of both 20 and 16 on both including TGMO. Cannot tell the difference between them.

As long as the 8 meets spec it will be suitable for your application.

Yeah I know hths is going to be pretty low with these crazy hybrid oils. I was more so curious about the additive package.

Yeah I just want to use the correct weight oil because id rather not mess around with warranty.

The answer is that this has been gone over and over 0w8 is only reccomended not required and it will be written in the owners manual as such.

That's not what the new 2025 Lexus owners manuals says. Previous manuals yes, but not the new ones. The new owners manual has strong wording that 0w-8 is required, and 0w-16 is only for temporary use and must be replaced with 0w-8 immediately whenever possible.

So using anything but 0w-8 puts you at risk of warranty denial, especially with how Toyota has been handling recent warranty claims with the gr86 and rtv issues - I don't want to risk it. So I'd prefer to get more data on 0w-8 oils to pick the best option.

Think about it if 16 or say a 20 grade is allowed for a moment or any duration it’s absolutely allowed anytime or for any duration.

I don't question that logic at all, when it's out of warranty I'll likely be switching over. But the problem is warranty denial and trying to fight a major corporation if anything were to occur.

For instance they'll be like: "ok you used 0w-16 temporarily no problem, but where's the proof you switched back to 0w-8 at the next possible moment?". At that point anyone risking it will be screwed because they won't have any receipts or proof they even attempted to go back to 0W-8.

2025 Lexus ux300h. The manual phrases it in such a way where you really don't have a choice if this were to go down to a legal battle over warranty claims.

Any difference in legal language is CAFE regulations making Toyota US require low viscosity oils.
