Friends, here's the question of the day: Motul Motor oil:

1) Good, Bad, or Ugly?
2) Comparable to Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, Amsoil?
3) Why's it so expensive?
4) Will it work well in my specific application (see signature)?
5) How about in my Buddy's VW GTI?

-A

a.Excellent oils
b.Race oriented generally. eg. 300V, Gear 300
c.POE based (very expensive esters)
d.Anything works in the old inline six ! Motul is too exxy and plain overkill. Save your $ and use one of the local brews.
e.If still under warranty, use of one of their VW approved oils would be fine.

Only the 300V is ester based. Others are blends of Group III/IV and V. Don't let the marketing fool you.

I don't think Motul has anything on M1 or Amsoil.

I have never used it, nor have I done much research on it.
The little things I have seen on it show it to be a very nice oil maker.

French oil, aimed mainly for the Euro and [censored] scene i reckon. Claims to have ester in all its oil, charges premiums for some oils with mineral content etc, eg. Motul 4100 Turbolite.

Forgot about their 'standard' range.
Their Group III brews are called 'technosynthese' to differentiate from the full ester and PAO oils.

Is M1 as good as Motul buster
