Motul 8100 X-CESS 5W40 GEN 2

Most likely just old pictures, go by what Motul's latest TDS says.

How about this then API SN without LL-01
https://www.motoroel100.de/epages/6...35/Products/"Motoröl Motul 5W-40 X-Cess 5X1L"

Why not just go for LL-04 if you can't find any LL-01. Isn't LL-04 supposed to be backwards compatible.
Otherwise just trust in MB229.5 and A40.

Edit:
Can still find gen2 bottles for sale, they have LL-01.

LL04 is NOT backwards compatible!

https://addinol.de/en/products/lubricants-for-the-automotive-sector/engine-oil/bmw/bmw-longlife-01/
" Due to the increased pollutant emissions, they are not suitable for cars with DPF. The BMW Longlife 04 standard is a further development of BMW Longlife 01 and is therefore backwards compatible. If your car is designed for Longlife 01, you can also fill in Longlife 04 without hesitation. Under no circumstances should engine oil with the approval BMW Longlife 01 be filled in diesel vehicles with DPF."
https://www.oilspecifications.org/bmw.php
"BMW Longlife-04 (BMW LL-04)Special BMW approval for fully synthetic long-life oil. Viscosities are SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 and 5W-40. Usually required for BMWs equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Can also be used where a BMW Longlife-98 or BMW Longlife-01 oil is recommended."

30seconds of googling disagrees.

It is actually, just not in Murica :ROFLMAO:

Fuchs
"BMW LONGLIFE-04 Specification for BMW engines with soot filter manufatured in 2004 and later. No reverse compatibility with BMW Longlife-01 in North America."

https://fuchs.azureedge.net/fileadmin/us/product-data/BMW_MINI_TRIFOLD.pdf
That is Fuchs's interpretation. Fuchs does not have large presence outside the EU when it comes to passenger vehicles. They mostly focus on industrial lubricants.
LL04 has been used in SOME European countries (not even all EU countries) since 2009 in engines that initially required LL01. In most countries around the world, LL01 stayed as the primary choice for N-generation gasoline engines and B generation.
Both LL01 and LL04 are regularly updated.

in my area market you cant find xcess gen 2 still, except some online shops from central europe. but still can find some first gen xcess 5-40. i dont know what stock is this from.i cant recall if is still in production next to gen 2.
but if it is , its not an old stock i mean, can somebody use it although there is no bmw ll01 approval anymore? based on the fact that old formula of excess did have it. and that question stands for other oil brands too.its just an example. are there any big differences between the 2 formulations of first excess that forbidden us to use it?

i am still confused with motul.today i went to a carshop ,this one is an official motul distributor .

on a 1lt bottle,octoder 2023 production has bmw 01 again.the 4lt from march 2023 didnt.

whats going on?

Is that GEN2?
i wish ,we still havent gen 2 here in the near countries ,only from online shops from germany and france.
no its the first, the previous i mean.i forgot to mention that they are both API SN. just different production dates
Bilder hade underlättat,

Pics?
i saw them at the shop. didnt take pics ,i was there quite a long time and looking some oils .they were staring at me, i felt a little embarrassed since i am a customer there.
i have a pic from their online shop from the 1lt though. there is one from 4lt and 5lt each with bmw ll01 but they are not correct since the one at the shop didnt have a bmw approval.
i think the one with the bmw ll01 1lt pack is what we are trying to find out about it so this is the one:

Interesting. Only thing I can think of is that PAO levels were too much for 2018 LL update. 2022 update allowed again PAO oils. Those are probably old stocks.

if 2022 update had bmw ll-1 then these 4 and 5 lt bottles produced march 2023 ,why are still without bmwll01? and why only the one with 1lt and october production has it?
we are talking same year production for both of them and after 2022 update.

i will try to contact motul but their customer service is on the weak spot

The update is 2022. However, Motul has to send a request for approval. Maybe they just did not as GEN2 was coming out.
Mobil1 did similar thing with 0W40 formula update in November 2015. Although the BMW update was coming in 2018, they did not request approval when the new formula in 2015 got out, although technically, it met the requirements of the 2012 update.
That would be my guess.

you are saying that it finally got the bmwll01 update approval somewhere near early fall and they produced around October their first approved x-cess gen 1 with bmwll01 again after all these years. thus the 2 different labels within the same year.
so the one with the 1lt and bmwll01 produced in october is the right one.true?

i know we clarified this but its not the first time this is happening.here is another witness from 2020:

Like I said, it is a guess.
I just briefly checked German Amazon, and they don't have GEN2.
However, Motul germany is showing GEN2:
