Motorcraft Oil filters

So I have a 1.6 NA Ford fiesta. From what I read here ford specifies a particular location for certain parts in the filter? Anti drain back valves or something like that?
Other filters have it located in the back of the filter instead of the threaded part like Motrocraft. How important is that detail?
 
Important enough for Ford and Chrysler to spec it on the OEM branded filters. Bypass events are thought to be rare however. The majority of filters do not have a thread end bypass and although it is a point of debate I have never heard of an actual documented issue because of it.
 
It all boils down to personal preference.

You simply cant go wrong with MC filters price wise or construction. Assuming you can easily find your spec'd filter at most retail/ parts stores, it would by no means be an inconvenience to run them.

The majority of WIX filters use thread end bypasses too, but your engine will be fine if another brand with different construction is used.
 
I use an MC filter on my Toyota since it costs the same or less than an oem one and much more efficient. Not to mention I use MC oil as well. So I take it to the Ford dealer for oil changes. Hard to beat the combo. I have 8k on this oci and thinking I will go to 10k since at least half the miles are hwy.

+1 - The FL-910S is one of my favorite filters to use.

The other filter makers (Wix, Fram, Purolator, etc.) make a filter that will work on your car just as well as the Motorcraft will.

I have always liked MC oil Filters and have always felt you got your $ worth and each cut open looks very good IMO

+2. FL-820S. Make sure it has the 'S' at the end as that indicates silicone ADBV.

Yeah...especially FORD engineers! LOL

The unfortunate problem is that engineers do not design cars. Accountants, lawyers, and EPA representatives do.
 
Ford engineers can design whatever they want.
Ill tell you this much, they may design it but we beta test it.
Never buy 1st year model or 2nd year or 3rd year or 4th year if its fiesta

More like the accountants, lawyers and EPA hinder the job of the engineers. Engineers still design, but under way too many stipulations which makes their job even more challenging.
 
This is odd, about 8 years or so ago when I used to lurk on this forum Purolator was considered good stuff and people ran away screaming when they heard the word fram.
 
My take on MC filters is they have been found with the tears. They are all I used on two Fords for years. Picture nice ones all day every day, no more for me unless the company puts out an upgrade notice about the tearing, which has been a real and definite problem.
 
I use the MC 2017 cartridge in the Fusion and the 910 in the Focus, and have for several years. Both perform very well at 10K OCIs with no defects.
