There is the FL-1HP, which I believe is thicker cased and made for performance applications. It's spec for the 1995 F150 with 460 V8. But the longer FL299 type filters tend to be thicker cased and in the case of Purolator, their L40017 has the bypass valve like a Motorcraft in the threaded end.

The FL-1A HP is made by Champion, not Purolator. It has the bypass on the threaded end just like all the Ford spec filters but the case is substantially thicker. They also cost about $12...

In resonse to Tenderloins remarks about the FL-1a being made by Purolator and Champion Labs.I retired from Wix in 2000 and I seen tons of Motorcraft filters made for various makes of auto's including the FL-1a that fits most if not all Ford trucks and Explorers(is that correct spelling). Also I saw a remark about Wix has been sold, that is correct, supposed to be completed in Sept.to the Cypress Group. The Cypress Group is not involved in any other oil filter manufacturing.Wix will still be Wix,with most of the management remaining in place.Dana(former owner) bought the Echlin Co. a few years back and two of their top executives will be in charge of operations. But they will still be making the same outstanding filter that they've been making for many years.
