I just changed oil on my truck at 11K miles. Cut open the filter. This is the 1st time I've used a cheap walmart filter, i bought the Motorcraft FL-1a, under 4 bucks.
I still had my used m1-301 laying around from the last oil change. I cut both open. I counted the pleats on the Motorcraft, it was 42. I counted on the M1, well I started to, got half way around and it was 40 when I stopped counting. Not sure it matters, both looked in good shape, no blockage, sludge, but since I go high miles between changes I guess I'll go back to the higher end filters.

The MC filters are designed for standard OCI's while the M1 are extended performance filters good for up to 15k OCI's...not surprising that it has more pleats for greater filtering capacity.

You do realize that when the FL1A was first introduced, it was marketed as the extended life version of the CFL1 filter, right?

I bought it because it was the most readily available filter with an ADBV at the time, for my application.

Mobil 1 filters are excellent just not very good values IMO. Motorcrafts are a bargain though, lots of features for the price.

Extended over what...3k or 3 month OCI's? By that definition an OCOD is an extended life oil filter.

Standard OCI's these days can be anywhere from 5k to 10k so as I said the Motorcraft filters are designed to run standard OCI's.

That's what they marketed it as. I don't recall them listing any actual figure with it. But, that is how it went. Of course, the CFL1 was discontinued, since its replacement was clearly superior.

Cheap price. As in low cost.
