My 01' Escort zx2 DOHC 2.0 originally speced the FL2005, Now they have quit making them and use the FL400S. I see the drain back valves are in diffrent locations and the 400s is shorter. Can the 400s be used or will it induce dry starts since my car has a horizontally mounted filter?
Thanks,
Dusty

Use the 400s.My ranger has a horz. mounted filter .The napa/wix causes a minimum amt. of bearing noise at startup, but the MC is just as good.

There is always a residual film of oil left on the parts . Remember the oil drains from the oil passages they do not stay full of oil when the engine is not running. So dry starts is really not a real concern, if the proper viscosity oil is used for startup temps.

lets hope the noise isn't bearing noise.

My 02 Zetec Focus is the same, the FL400S is the best filter you can buy for the price and they stock them at Walmart.
