Did some service on my 2011 today including replacing the air filter after around 30k miles. The one that was in there was a Napa Gold 9883 and I installed a Motorcrat FA-1883. The old one was visibly dirty but not completely covered so I doubt flow was significantly impaired. Interestingly, the Motorcraft filter is SIGNFICANTLY thinner than the Napa Gold- I would say that the napa/wix was roughly 1.5x the thickness of the Motorcraft unfortunately I wasn't thinking at the time and didn't take any pics. The Napa/wix pleats are just shy of 2 inches from base to tip and about 5 pleats per inch. I don't much like opening airboxes multiple times so maybe somebody has a FA-1883 to compare otherwise I'll probably cave eventually and get some measurements.

I have been using WIX air filters in all my vehicles. You can’t fault a Ford owner for using Motorcraft parts that is for sure. I have found the WIX to be a little more solid. Last one I noticed was made in Poland but must are USA made.

I changed my air filter in my brothers 2019 F150. The motocraft FA1883 that came out was at least an 1" shorter media height then the WIX 49883 I replaced it with. The Wix had a lot more media then the Motorcraft. I was always use Motocraft everything before, but the last year the oil filters and air filters have been sub par to me. Hastings makes a good air filter also.

Probably due to the thinner media but I’d actually noticed a change in the engine sound while accelerating. Nothing earth shattering but it is noticeable.

buck91,
Good to know & nice pics.

I was a Purolator fan for years until the media tearing in the oil filters became a thing. Now I'm a Wix fan for oil and air.

Today, I went to buy a replacement air filter for my 2020 F-150. I stopped at my local Ford dealer for the filter. The parts guy came out with a filter in a plain white box, with a small label on it. It showed the filters that it replaced. I also noticed the made in China COO. I questioned the parts guy about it. He said, it was from bulk packaging. I handed it back to him and told him no thanks. I went to NAPA and picked up a NAPA Gold 9883. The NAPA was much thicker and made in Mexico.
Maybe, a Ford parts guy can give some insight on the plain white boxed air filters.

The FA-1883 is one of many air filters that are on backorder through the vendor, Mann/Hummel. Parts departments are having to scramble to get anything they can to support their service departments.

Luckily my FAD still has some. But they will also ship us the Champ labs version, which isn't ideal, but it is better than saying we don't have anything.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Air filters seldom get fully used.
You can just buy a wix next change.
