If it is a white FL-820S it is made by Purolator...if it is grey and it is the "original" filter that came on the vehicle then it is made by Champion Labs.
If its a motorcraft and didn't come on the vehicle from the factory, its a purolator. The only place the Champion Motorcraft filters are obtainable is on a new vehicle from the factory.
Another check is if the openings on the base are kind of a rounded off rectangel instead of perfcectly round. That's a dead giveaway for a purolator in the FL820s.
The motorcraft FL-820s gets a heavier guage canister and has the bypass valve on the open end of the can, as specified by Ford. The Pure One and regular purolator (PL14651 If I remember right) have a lighter guage canister and have the bypass in the closed end. The Purolator regular had a nitrile antidrainback valve versus the silicone in the motorcraft and Pure Ones. Filtering media looked similar in the Pure One and Motorcraft, but we all know looks ain't everything...

They are probably a bit different, but share the same parts with some purolators I guess. They are great filters for $2.77 and thats why Ill put them on my toyotas.
I talked to a purolator rep about a year ago and was told that the Motorcraft filters are not like any other purolator filters, that they are made for Ford to their specifications. I don't know how true this is but it is what I was told.
