My first OCI change on my newly used purchased Honda Odyssey was with Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 & oem Honda filter I get for $2 . However after learning that the Honda dealer uses conventional GTX for OCI's I was thinking of saving my jobless butt $13 and goin with the highly regarded Motorcraft 5W20 w/Honda filter for the 7500 OCIs. Anyone think the MC might not hold up? I have seen the positive used oil analysis with it and it is so cheep at Walmart $12.50 for jug.

Both are fine oils, both will be OK for that interval under non-severe usage. Get whatever is cheaper.
I did however hear that Honda's V6 engines are harder on oil than I4, so maybe the used oil analysis that you saw may not reflect your own engine/driving pattern.
Do UOA and find out for sure.

there is no monitor in my '03', only a reminder light that goes off at 7500. My thoughts are that if the dealer feels comfortable putting conventional GTX in new vehicles for 7500 miles, then i would think Motorcraft blend should have no problems. Service is normal/severe It gets driven on the highway 3-4 times per week at 65mph for a good 15 minutes one way. The rest of the time is trips to the gym or grocery store and mother in laws house all about 3-7 miles one way.

If I had money for a used oil analysis I wouldnt be tryin to save a meesley $13. We will see, I might stick with the PP if it comes down a little more or even switch to MAxlife Blend and have both vehicles on the MAxlife! The van has 71k miles on it. Now that I think about it and at the Meijer prices, I prolly will do just that.

What do u guys think, Maxlife Blend a little better than Motorcraft Blend?

This is not about "dealer comfort", bu about "dealer profit". The oil may meet minimum specs. The car will not die for 100+K miles. Dealer comes out clean with extra pocket change and/or major $$$ from repairs

.
Using better oil / proper OCI may extend the life of the engine well beyond dealer's expected engine life and potentially save you $ on oil using extended OCI.

IMHO you will be fine with either oil for 7500 miles even with your semi-severe service.

MaxLife is a little bit of a different animal because it includes more seal conditioners, etc... It could be a better oil, but I am not familiar with higher OCI intervals on this oil.

Well , ford recommends their oil so what length OCI are they recommending for their vehicles.

Sure, it might 7,500 or longer.
But I'd go 5,000 on the MC. Maybe 6,000.
It is very good oil.
With your new car,are you really concerned about 2 extra oil changes in a 5 year period?

The Owner's Manual is calling for 7,500 on my '08 Taurus X. I'm guessing that's with MC 5w-20 and FL400S, at least I hope so, cause that's what I'm using...

^ Yep -- the 08+ Ford manuals recommend 7500 or 6 months. Some dealers will still recommend 5K. Some small town dealers may even say 3k. It equals more money in their pocket, so why not?

But, if you're worried about pushing MC 7500 mi, just run PP. The added cost of PP will be less than the cost and hassle of UOA.

I have a 2005 Ford which spec's 5W20 out to 5K miles, but in 2008 MY they increased it to 7.5K miles (non-sever). On the 2005 they say oil can be dino but must meet Ford '930A spec.

I plan to go to 7.5K after warranty expires but only on synth.
