Motorcarft filters...going going gone!

THAT is bad news....the FL-1A is my favorite for short term runs. I will stop by my local waldoworld....
I think AC's disappeared a year ago, STP's last month along with many Motorcraft and ST numbers. Last I looked, they did have the ST3950 in the new black case. I went to their web site and sent a message saying that if all they stock are Fram's, I will buy my filters elsewhere.
I posted on here several times that Wal-Mart is not gettig rid of the SuperTech filters. They also are NOT getting rid of Motorcraft filters---sometimes the suppliers don't manufacture enough for Wally's demand and the shelves may be empty for awhile, but as soon as they are produced they will be back. I guarantee it.
If wal-Mart is out of Motorcraft oil filters, Advance Auto Parts has them for around three dollars each.
Motorcraft filters are Purolator Premium Plus, and they're about the same price. I've disected comparable models of each, and they're identical.
On the FL-820s, the Premium Plus and the Motorcraft are not identical. The motorcraft has the bypass located right at the base of the filter so flow doesn't have to go over the filter pleats to get to the bypass. The Purolator has the bypass up on top.
Our local WalMart continues to stock the Motorcraft......just last week they re-stocked Motorcraft filters with the new Motorcraft box design going away from the plain red or re/white box color........For my Ford T-Bird 4.6SOHC winter beater and any otehr Ford vehicle I would only use Motorcraft filters because: 1. they have the correct by-pass valve design. 2. they have a high-flow backplate with large oval shaped holes 3. for teh FL-820S have a silicon ADV 4. have a PurOne filter cartridge and 5. are $2.97 at our Walmart.......

Let's just say that I have pretty good sources.
I just bought four Motorcraft (Ford) FL-1A's at Wal-Mart for $2.77 each. To me this Filter is a SCREAMING
good deal!!!
They appear to have PLENTY.
The nice looking one in the center aisle had plenty, too - but she would no doubt cost more than $2.77........

Preliminary results from Bob's filter test showed a sizeable and significant pressure drop across a Motorcraft filter--one of the greatest drops of all that were tested. That's enough to scare me away from that brand until further testing determines exactly what that PD means in terms of flow.

Interesting - some how I thought this filter flowed well. I guess because I use two in parallel on the 245Ti - I never noticed - certainly not in oil gauge readings, noise at start, or high wear metals.

I can't say much for the testing that has been done on all of the filters as I have not done them ...
But I will say that I ran Frams for quite a while whereas the marketing got me to buy them , thinking they were superior ...I decided to try a Ford original filter Motorcraft and can positively say the initial rod or other internal noise I use to hear on initial start up is GONE .. starts ups are quiet NO KNOCKING since I switched ... just my 2 Cents >>> Larry B.
