Same generation as his truck.

Chances are a Motorcraft filter will be fine, but when we have seen documented tearing of the media why not use a product that hasn't had a failure history?

I've run MANY Motorcraft FL400s and FL910s filters on my Fusion, almost always for 7,500 miles, give or take a couple hundred.. and I have yet to have one show even a hint of a tear or hole.

Yes, I've seen a couple pics of an MC filter with a tear or hole.. but they almost always seem to be the FL820 filters. Seems there are a couple models in the MC filter lineup that just need improvement. Overall, I'd say most MC filters are good to go.

Are you a church going person? If you are and your pastor preached a sermon that wasn't to your standards, would you seek out another church? Just sayin'........

When I'm not using a synthetic type oil filter I use an FL-400S.

I can get Wix for the same price as an FL500S so I don't see any reason to run the MC filter with self bypassing media. A couple $$ more gets a Fram Ultra.

I only use MC on my Fords. Probably good for other cars. They are priced low at Walmart. Purolator makes MC filters to Ford specifications for quick oil flow at start up.

I have used them for many years with no issues.

Only the factory Motorcraft filters - the ones during new vehicle assembly, are made to Ford Specs.

Even the ones Ford Parts uses in their service department for things like oil changes, are not the same as the factory Motorcraft filters.

Just curious what is the source of this information? I would imagine that a customer like Ford that orders millions of Motorcraft Filters every year from thier supplier can pretty much spec what ever they want to be put into their brand. Recent FL910S that I cut open even had FOMOCO molded into the ADBV rubber.

Look here for Motorcraft filters cut open.

OEM (as in first oil change from the factory) is a different filter, both in looks and construction, than what is sold over the counter as Motorcraft.

The ones you and I can buy are made by Purolator, the OEM from factory I think is Champ made.

Who makes these oil filters for Ford?
I have seen a few of these oil filters cut open after being removed from the engine. They look like a very well built oil filter. Why aren't they sold to the public?

This is a pile of random filters I believe were made by Purolator … everyone of them had an easy to tear paper filter.
Fram XG is synthetic over wire mesh along with Wix XP, Amsoil etc …

That’s not to say all have to be fully synthetic to be durable … Mobil 1 uses a blended material that is tough … just does not filter as good as some of the synthetic filters …

The ones I've seen cut open were made by Champion Laboratories using their typical pre-ecore design, unknown media efficiency. Just like the original Super Tech oil filters and pre-ecore STP oil filters in construction.

No idea why these aren't available at retail. It would be nice if Champ Labs offered "Classic" construction oil filters at retail but after 14 or so years of the ecore, doubt that'll ever happen.
