Filters are made by Purolator, but to FoMoCo specs. Use them (and the MC) with confidence.

Tearolators.

I've used MC filters for 30 yrs with no issue.
Cut open some and never a tear.
They are made to Ford specs so they are not the same as a Pur.

I use both in my 05 Toyota Matrix. Oil stays a light to medium honey color throughout the entire 7k oci. Unlike the toyo filters and bulk oil that turns black quickly. Not that color is a tell all.

Are there any reported engine failure with the so-call Tear-O-haters?

I mean like coarse or knocking engine sounds, bad mpg, increased oil consumption, timing chain rattles, bad UOA reports AND so on.?

Why would there be engine failures with torn media? Engine failures are not the point. Filters shouldn't have holes in the media.

I have a mc cartridge I examined at 7500. Its looked like its ready for another 7500 so I put it back in. I'll tale pics at 10k

Mc filters are great and are not the same as puros.

Both are great and budget friendly.

Used Mc 5w20 and filter on my 5.4 f150 and my 2012 400hp 5.0 mustang. Loved 7000rpm.

thats the problem if someone has an engine failure they take it to a shop like mine and we rebuild it.. Most dont cut open filters to check them, and if a media tears and don't clog anything you may not notice there is a problem for many more miles. I just stay away from the filters that are known for tearing that is the smart thing to do..

We've used Motorcraft oil filters for 8 years on our Crown Victoria and have had "0" issues and 290,000 plus miles.

One bad filter does not merit a statement like this. Not at all.

Sure, that one looked bad, and yes, Motorcraft filters are made by Puro, but anyone scanning the oil filter section can clearly see that Puros and MC filters are two very different beasts.

It's been stated before - MC filters are made by Puro, but they are made to Ford specs.

I cut open two FL400s filters this weekend, and I can say without a doubt that they are virtually pristine, as used filters go, and they ran for 7500 miles each. I will be posting pictures this evening.

Motorcraft filters are good filters - use them with confidence.

MC oil is also great stuff.

Oil is top quality, made by ConocoPhillips who also makes highly regarded TropArtic and Kendall.

Filters are made by Purolator with a thread end bypass and a silicone ADBV. But they have had some with tears just like the Purolator models. IMO, you can spend the same money for a Napa Silver made by WIX that also has a thread end bypass, silicone ADBV, and doesn't have a record of torn filter media.

Okay, I know I said I was going to post filter pics that night, but it took me longer. Got one pic to post here, and I will be posting many more pics tonight under the Oil Filters forum.

This photo is of two Motorcraft FL400s ilters, both run on my 2010 Ford Fusion, and each run for a little over 7500 miles. One had been sitting for about 4 months before I cut it open.

On both filters, all pleats maintained strong structural rigidity. While this picture does not show it, both filters were glued at the seam and the seam on each was still holding fast.

Yes, this is indeed just two filters, but considering they were two consecutively run filters, they strongly reinforce my confidence in the product.
