My grandson just got a Jeep GC Overland 4X4 Hemi V8. The cap says to use 5-20 motor oil and I'm wondering with 140K miles and Fla temps near 100 would it be benificial to go to a 5-30 (synthetic) oil. I've heard reasons not to like lifter issues and cam phaser issues because of the 30W oil. Anyone do this with issues or is it working OK?

No mention of climate or location by thread-starter.
Need more info please.
Not really. Engine coolant and oil temps are usually double any ambient temps unless OP is in Death Valley, and even then, ambient temps would still be cooling the oil.

I agree wholeheartedly with the M1 FS 0w40 crowd, because while no oil will fix the lifter manufacturing defects or soft lobes on 5.7 camshafts, maintaining a high enough HTHS & MOFT will at least not hasten the engine’s demise.

Close your eyes and pick a jug.

My work we use 5w30 rerefined without issues.

No oil will mitigate damage due to poor metallurgy.
That said, I run 30 and 40 grade in my 5.7 -
Currently Castrol Euro 5w-40.
BTW, Florida heat is no too hot for any engine.
I noticed the 5w40 doesn't have the chrysler spe the 0w40 does..,..... matter at all ????
