Hello everyone,
I have begun modification of a Motor Guard Filter for automotive oil by-pass usage. I have lurked here for quite awhile, spoke / texted Detroit Garage, watched his videos, downloaded the hand sketches of modifications, etc. I purchased a "medical version" of the filter and it is grey and came with the 4-1/4 tall filter. In the pictures, you can see where I machined a tube, very similar to what I learned to do on here. I also installed a #221 o-ring to seal against my tube.
Now to my question / issue:
The tallest filter I can find is 4.1" and that is a Scott 1000. The rest are 4" or even slightly less. Installing one of these "short" filters, I can easily blow into the in or out port with my mouth and I feel certain that air is making its way around the filter. My suspicion is that since the toilet paper is not tight against neither the top or bottom of the housing, it is not being compressed enough to expand and seal. When I install the supplied 4-1/4 filter, I can feel resistance to flow when I blow through it. I have one roll left of Scott 1000 that is 4-1/4" tall from a few years ago, when installing it, I can certainly feel difficulty blowing through it as if it has the proper resistance.
What are you guys doing about these new short rolls to address this issue?
