Do you mean that the Fram PH filters have the least amount of leak defects currently in the Fram lineup?Again Frams new top tier filter
Thanks for the c&p
Two examples trying to represent the whole of the USA car market production in the 70’s.The oil filter market in the US right now reminds me of the US car market in the 1970's, where CEO's were minimizing quality assurance, reducing time to market, cheaping the product as much as they can get away with, often with dire conseqences to the reliability of the product (ex: Chevy Vega / Ford Pinto).
Look at the deep leaf spring impression in the fiber end cap (photo 3 in post 1). Even if there was a ruffled leaf spring it would have sealed.Do you mean that the Fram PH filters have the least amount of leak defects currently in the Fram lineup?
US cars made in the 1970's, it was a very rare occurrence for a vehicle to reach 100,000 miles. Those cars had planned obsolescence built in so you would have to keep buying new ones. Two examples trying to represent the whole of the USA car market production in the 70’s.
Good observation. I wonder if a brand new Fram PH filter made in 2025 would be the same high quality.Look at the deep leaf spring impression in the fiber end cap (photo 3 in post 1). Even if there was a ruffled leaf spring it would have sealed.
Good enough ... you can see an impression in the fiber end cap on the ADBV side too.I always wondered how good those silicone adbv's seal against the fiber end caps?
Great work as always. Thank You sir2016 CRV, 1 year, 4k miles. Held up fine. Silicon ADBV was very soft and pliable and looks like both ends of the caps sealed nicely against their ADBV and spring. Oil was SuperTech 5w20. Replaced with a Fram PH7317 and SuperTech 5w20.

I’ve wondered that before as well, logically it seems like it wouldn’t seal too well and it should seal better against a smooth metal surface, but I cut open a PH4386 on Sunday off of our RAV4 that I had taken off on April 15th. From April 15th until April 27th it sat over the hole in my oil change thingy, baseplate down, and when I opened it up it was still quite full of oil. That is generally how my PH’s are when I open them up. These are the ones with the metal center tube, I have not used the newer E-core version yet, so cannot speak to their ADBV performance.I always wondered how good those silicone adbv's seal against the fiber end caps?
