Mother Wants a Luxury Car.

My Mother is thinking she wants a luxury car next time she buys. Her budget will likely be about $20,000 Max and not over 3 years old.
She really does not have any idea on size or brand.

Her last 2 cars have been a Hyundai Accent and Buick LeSabre.


Im thinking a Lincoln Town Car since the Ford CV and Merc GM are known to be pretty reliable and affordable to fix. Any thoughts?

Lexus ES300 are comfy, and pretty good cars (think Camry)

An ES300 is over 3 years old and I dont think you can get a ES350 in excellent condition for $20,000.

If you could go a few years older (2003-2004), a Toyota Avalon is a nice vehicle. We LOVE our 02 Avalon...very smooth, quiet, and even produced 30.1 mpg on the highway! Drive one and you will be saying "where do I sign?"!

I've ridden in an 04 Avalon and the Avalon from the previous generation. They're nice and plush but they're nothing to write home about. More like sleep inducers than much else.

I'd look into a Volvo S60. The 07 models are just under $20k.
But I'm a Ford guy myself so of course I'd have a positive opinion about the Panthers you mentioned.

What is mom's idea of luxury? That right there is going to determine what she buys.

A Town Car is a nice old skool choice, but does she want a big boat to steer?

Why is 3 yrs old important? If I found her a sweet '06 Lexus ES330, would she immediately dismiss it based on age?

Buick Lucerne? Cadillac STS? Chrysler 300? Lincoln MKZ?

Sounds like the definition of a Mothers luxury car.

+1, however with the MKS being its first year in production I highly doubt you could find it for 20k at this point yet. However an MKZ could easily be had for 20k

My MIL was looking for a replacement for a 2000 Buick Riviera (that no longer seemed safe after the power steering went out at 20K something miles, and then had a fire warning recall recommending the car be parked outside while GM tried to figure out a fix) looked at everything under the sun, and decided on a Maxima. Very, very happy with it--but you may have to go back past three years to get one under $20K.

How old is Mom and how BIG of a car does she want? It would be hard to beat a late model Mercury Grand Marquis, but they are a lot larger than the other cars she has driven.
