MoS2 in gear oil?

Was wondering if anyone has used the Lubro Moly MoS2 additive in gear oil? Seems like its ability to stick to parts would be beneficial in the differentials. I have an open differential so just curious.

For some parts in the trans, it would be great. I would love it !

But I do NOT recommend this! The synchros can permanently be made to be too slippery - draining the fluid afterwards will not cure it - the moly is impregnated and bonded with a sulfur bond.

Some people have been lucky. And if you have aggressive synchros, you can get away with it. But it is counterproductive in this critical area.

Don't put moly in a manual trans.

I have never used the additive you mentioned, but I have used moly gear lubes from Texas Refinery and Schaeffer's with great results. My brother uses the TRC moly gear lube in the final drives on some pretty large bulldozers, which I consider to be an ideal application for a moly gear lube. i.e. High load/torque, slow speed, shock loading, etc.

Would it be okay with an Automatic transmission? I have MoS2 in my Auto transmission. The bottle is specific for this application. It is the soluble MoS2 type.

No, they strictly advise against using MoS2 in automatics.

It might be worse in an auto trans! It has bands and clutcxhes!
