MoS2 in transfer cases and free differentials

From what I understand, it seems that if MoS2 has a role in a modern lubricant, it would be in transfer cases and free differentials. Are there any blenders making a MoS2 fluid for these applications? Would MoS2 be an appropriate additive for older or worn T-cases and rear ends? Does MoS2 make as much sense as RedLines use of Calcium sulfonates for similar applications.
 
I just prefer a quality gear oil with no additives. Usually always stick with a full synthetic in a similar weight to what is required. And, I'll go thicker if vehicle is worked, or has developed any noises.

If you believe that some additive in a bottle can help, you could definitely add it. But, I haven't seen any additive rebuild worn 'ends or 'cases.
 
Has a role in some lubricants and applications. That does not mean it is ideal in all of them.

You can squeeze out miles with thicker fluids but in the end the best solution to wear is to replace the worn parts.
 
I recently learned that MoS2 needs to be finely divided to a certain size to properly work. Too finely divided and it becomes abrasive.

That doesn't make sense to me, how could it possibly be abrasive unless if too finely divided (only if the particle chunks are too large could it be abrasive I would think).

I agree with Loobed, MoS2 is perfect for diff's. The only possible problem being some interaction with copper parts, which I wouldn't think to be a problem unless you change the fluid terribly infrequently (?).

I believe it isn't put into gear oils because it would definitely wreak havoc on the more complex parts that need friction and viscosity, like synchro meshes and LSD's, in very short order.

You can have better wear on some parts, but your synchros will not 'bite' properly. And you may have to grind it off to get it off!
Avoid MoSo2 in transmissions.
 
MoS2 - like graphite - has a tall atomic crystal structure that allows for easy slip. It is this slipping action that gives it the properties of a solid lubricant. Once MoS2 becomes nanocrystalline, this action is lost and I'm told it takes on abrasive properties.

As well as limited slip diffs, as has been stated.

Torsen even told me it would interfere with the necessary for biasing, worm gear friction with the outer case of their diffs.
So even in NON clutch/cone diffs it may be harmful to function.
