OK. I was at my local Wal-Mart (La Habra, CA) again today. No Ultra - not on the oil isle at least. But, one isle over right next to the pressure washers was a shelf of Pennzoil Ultra - 5W20, 5W30 and 10W30 in 5 quart jugs.

No price was on the shelf, so I scanned the price - $18.00 per jug (at least the 5W30).

Not sure why it's on sale, not sure why there's no shelf tag, not sure why it's not with the oil (but one isle over with the pressure washers). But I bought 4 jugs.

If Ultra isn't good oil, I'm so skrewed!

You're not the first guy to find the Ultra jugs for $18.00. I wish my local Wal-Mart would make that mistake.

Even though I am a recently converted dino user, at $18 a jug I would have bought them out, and asked if there was more in the back room. I probably would have bought all their 10w30 if it was the same price also and used it in the summer months.

I can't quite ascribe that level of strategic thinking to my local Wally's World. Given that last week, I found the Ultra on the clearance rack, and this week I found it right there with the power washers, I think that my local store is simply confused.

What is par and also how would wally world know this?

Par is "up to the task, or good enough". Walmart knows everything, even the name of your unborn child.

walmart is good at selling subpar merchandise. If the first ultra batch was subpar, walmart would just be conducting business as usual...

I seriously doubt Pennzoil would allow a subpar version of a branded product out and sold as normal. If anything it would recalled and end up as bulk oil for the quicky lube shops.

Not the problem in my store. It is on the oil shelf and it is $28. Darn the competent people in my store!!!

I saw $28 a jug last night at Walmart for PU 5-20.
I am intrigued by the promised super cleaning and long life, but no way for that kind of money.

cjhepburn, you almost had it right. First off a knowingly non spec oil would not be shipped out. If an oil was shipped out that did not meet spec for some reason it would be recalled. It would not then be resold as bulk oil to anyone.

I figured it out, it was found in the power washer dept. so they think because of all that clean talk that it is used to clean things. Have you ever talked to one of these people?? When you shop you do so under your own choice therefore do not expect to understand why. I just read that the earthquake

moved the earth off its axis by 3 inches. So why worry about anything anymore???

So you think Pennzoil knowingly sent out a bad batch of oil, and Walmart tested it and sold it anyway? Doesn't sound right for a company that makes billions each year.
