Back in the bad old days if you lipped off to a police officer, they would give you a free ride to the outskirts of a city and drop you off in the -30 deg weather. Taught a lot of folks about respect.
My favourite indicator for a Polar Vortex is when it's -25 F in Winnipeg and below 32 F in Tallahassee, Florida.

It can be interesting having four actual seasons, but it can lead to needing a lot of different kinds of clothes and running out of hooks in the foyer coat closet.
