I was in the Walmart today, and as is my wont, I perused the motor oil aisle briefly. I found that some Super Tech products such as ATF carried the WPP mark, but that the motor oil carried no mark whatsoever. On the bottom of the bottle, it says 2-19, has the recycle symbol with HDPE under it, and has a rectangle with a funny looking symbol in it that was on some other bottles as well. None of these seem, at least in my limited knowledge, to point to a manufacturer. The bottle was stamped 0010293324 which I assume is a lot number. Also U002 and 11MAY11 21:49.
Despite my previous assertions that Super Tech was probably the same as Mag 1, I don't know what this stuff is. I still think the WPP stuff is probably the same as Mag 1, but this apparently isn't WPP.
I have heard that the stuff in Southern California is XOM, and maybe this is, but I don't know.
I think I'll continue to stick with brand names for now. Even at regular price, some of them cost very little more than Super Tech.
