More proof that the ACTUAL recession never ended.

I know that I spent a fraction of what I normally spend due to the fact that I just don't have it to spend. If my taxes get raised significantly next year then I will have to tighten the reigns that much more. Eventually the cart is just going to come to a halt.

This info isn't from any newspaper or media source. It's straight from this horse's mouth.

If you read this in the Charlotte Observer, which I've never heard of before, then it must be true.
If only the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal could do as well.

And the newspaper needs to be big enough to have its own reporters in important areas. Otherwise they just use a feed from AP. I do believe the NYT and WSJ and NPR try to report the news accurately and not slant things. But one needs to separate columns/blogs/editorials from the news.

Also it would be good if more people supported the places you obtain news from. Having reporters out and about costs money. I pay the $3.99/week for the NY Times. I want good news and am willing to pay for it.

While my line of work does not reflect the average American, (Corporate Aviation) . There were far fewer aircraft on the ramp this holiday. That's got to mean something when even the rich and famous are not spending.

You do get what you pay for, in news reporting or in anything else.
You make a good point in that most news outlets merely copy what they print or broadcast from other sources.
Good news outlets do actual reporting.

There are few organizations doing real news in the US. BBC, NPR, Al Jezeera.

NYT's David Brooks is a great level headed guy doing commentary.

This is one of the funniest things I have ever read. Al Jezzera, SERIOUSLY???

Maybe those who can afford such aircraft felt secure enough to fly to more desirable winter destinations than Florida?
There are lots of nice islands within a thousand or so miles of anywhere in Florida.

Just more proof that the smoke and mirrors economy that the powers that be want to manufacture is suffering more than ever.

I'm thinking that we are in for a borderline depression by next summer or fall.

If you read or listened to the entire article they talked about various factors, such as Sandy, Newtown shooting, uneasy-ness about fiscal cliff and gift cards. Gift cards are not counted until used.

Try reading the NY Times to get accurate news.
It's pretty pathetic that the Newton shootings are being blamed for weak Holiday sales. But hey, never let a good crisis go to waste.

Yes; suggest you visit their website and research their reporting; The primary opinion people have about them was caused by a repeatedly misreported attribution.

They are not mouthpieces of conservative Arab nations you will find.

Does anybody know if those numbers are inflation adjusted year over year? If not then:

If the US inflation rate is 3% and sales are increasing at a rate if 2.5% then sales are actually down .5%. People only paid more for the same goods or less goods. Which is not ideal.

If you use the pre-1982 inflation calculation (which includes energy and food inflation) the its about 8% inflation and 2.5% growth which adds up to -5.5% growth.

I've seen a few episodes of Fault Lines by Al Jezzera and I did not feel their reporting slanted in any direction.

FoxVay,
There is no denying people are cutting back on spending money unless they have to... I know I won't buy something unless its necessary. All the TV's in my house are CRT and won't get replaced until they die. no matter how good a sale Walmart or BestBuy has.

My plans right now is retirement, retirement and retirement.

Excellent point, I almost forgot about this fact as well.

Al Jezzera is a reasonable alternative to the jewish dominated media in the US.

NPR real news?
That was good i needed a laugh!

It is clear you are easily influenced by people with talking points rather than making an evaluation yourself.

Simple Gifts-

NPR is not free of bias in their reporting.

Sorry to inform you of this.

I indicated they do "real news"; which they do. They have reporters, do investigative journalism, have an hourly newscast. etc. They can be easily distinguished from other outlets that aggregate news or don't adhere to basic journalistic ethics.

To suggest they don't do "real news" as someone did, is laughable.

If the government honestly calculated and reported the real unemployment figures the rate would reveal a depression level 15+%.
