had to change out the thermostat early (20K/Mi) …made the engine run hotter then normal…I was wondering why the side of the therm. facing the cold side had a very slight grayish film on it while the side facing the block was shiny and absolutely clean…never experienced this before using a dexcool product (havoline) on any other vehicle..

..this is concerning my 2001 Subaru outback 2.5L..Perhaps the observation of the gray film on the cold side of the thermo. may have something to do with the new non- subi branded rubber coolant and heater hoses I replaced last yr…the exterior of the hoses seem to be much more grayish in color now then when first installed last fall...
