There are many post on BITOG that there is now way that an individual can pick up HP simply by changing from one oil to another. There are many post that also say that butt dyno is nothing but bunk. Whether either of these are true or not is certainly debatable but the following tests results are interesting.

I can easily fathom minor differences in crankshaft HP. Probably mostly because of minor differences in viscosity from one oil to another. After that would come the additive package and other factors.

I thinner oil will have less pump drag, The oil having an ability to slip better would be very slight. 5 kw = ? HP. I watched the million mile M1 vid and thats kinda impressive.

Usually they get these results when they change grades. For example, there's a test with a Lancer EVO where they went from 20w50 Dino to Eneos 0w50

I think the 0w50 had more to do with it than anything else since the oil was probably not that warm

Was it Royal Purple that did a similar 'test' some time back; testing their synthetic oil against a 'popular' 10W-40?

Changing to a synthetic MAY increase horsepower a small amount. Especially when used in a highly modified engine and at high rpm that most of us will never see.

There were all synthetic oils and all were the same vis. Clearly the thing was to promote one oil but it does show that one oil can allow an engine to product more HP VS another oil as a result of less friction. For normal driving it could result in better MPG albeit slight.

1 kw = 1.36 HP so 5 kw = 6.798HP That means there was a 14.96 HP difference between the top and bottom tested oils on the Evo and that is not an insignificant amount.
